Forest School Site - design, build and maintain
I was invited to look at the site for a proposed forest school site. The site consisted of three small ‘stands’ of trees, inaccessible due to overgrown vegetation. It was clear to me that the stands should be opened up and linked together for an enriched woodland experience. I cleared the stands and installed locally sourced log edging and bark chip paths for easier access for exploration. The entrance and central meeting point are defined with live willow structures; archway, tunnels and willow fencing.
A second part of the brief was to install a feature to celebrate the school saint, St Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology. I commissioned a local potter to run a pottery workshop with the children where they all had the opportunity to make a ‘nature’ piece to then be installed around the woodland site which is also used as a nature trail.
